Handmade natural soaps to promote green awareness
(Macao, May 12, 2012) – The Sands China Care Ambassadors shared the joy of Sands Macao’s eighth anniversary with the local community Saturday (May 12), as they joined the Fuhong Society of Macau to make natural aroma soaps and enjoyed a special buffet lunch together at Reflections poolside lounge at Sands® Macao.
Around 30 members and ten staff members of the Fuhong Society of Macau, an organisation providing lively and interactive occupational training programmes for adults with intellectual disabilities, were transported by chartered coach to Sands Macao at 11 am, where 30 Sands China Care Ambassadors eagerly awaited their arrival.
In line with the focus of Sands China Ltd. on sustainability and the preservation of the environment, the Ambassadors promoted green awareness by cooperating with the Fuhong members to make aroma soaps using natural raw materials, in celebration of Sands Macao’s eighth year.
While enjoying the poolside breeze at Reflections, the Ambassadors and the Fuhong members listened to the instructors together and combined their teamworking skills to make the do-it-yourself environmentally-friendly soaps. They all shared joyful moments and exchanged laughter during the soap-making process – from cutting and melting the pre-made blocks of soap base, and adding colours and fragrances, to pouring the liquid soap into the molds and packaging the final product.
The Fuhong Society of Macau launched the exclusive handmade soaps in 2009, now a popular gift at local parties and events. Completely handmade by Fuhong members, the soaps are made of natural raw materials and include different essential oils, without any additives.
The activity concluded with a buffet lunch at 2 pm. The Fuhong members took home the handmade soaps, souvenirs from Sands Macao, and of course the joy and memory of the day. As a responsible corporate citizen of Macao, Sands China is committed to supporting worthwhile causes in the local community, like the promotion of the community integration of people with different abilities.
The Sands China Care Ambassadors also celebrated last year’s seventh Sands Macao anniversary with Fuhong. A total of 45 Ambassadors and 30 Fuhong members visited the Macau Giant Panda Pavilion and also enjoyed a buffet lunch at 888 Gourmet Place at Sands Macao. In addition, Sands China Ltd. presents an annual donation to Fuhong, having contributed MOP 1.5 million since 2006.
