(Macao, February 18, 2013)
– Sands China Ltd. properties
welcomed a record number of visitors during the first week of Chinese New Year,
with 1.7 million visits from February 10 to 16 to its four Macao
properties – Sands® Macao, The
Venetian® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and Sands®
Cotai Central. That translates to an average of nearly a quarter million
visitors each day during the first week of Chinese New Year.
The Venetian Macao set its all-time
record for visitation on the fourth day of the New Year, with almost 140,000
visits. The surge in Sands China property visitation was reflected in hotel
occupancy rates as well.
“Sands China’s over 9,000 hotel rooms were
at or near full capacity almost the entire week,” said Gunther Hatt, Executive
Vice President of Operations, Venetian Macau Limited. “With Sands Cotai Central
now fully open, we offer nearly 6,000 more rooms than last year, providing
expanded accommodation choices with international brands Conrad, Sheraton and
Holiday Inn. It’s a testament to Macao’s
ability to grow into a world centre of tourism and leisure that, with the
additional 6,000 rooms, our hotels were still full.
“We are very pleased to see so many
visitors to our properties during Chinese New Year, enjoying the full spectrum
of our integrated resort offering. With world-class entertainment at the
CotaiArena nearly every week, 600 duty-free retail choices at our
interconnected Shoppes, exquisite dining options and spectacular exhibitions, Sands
China is proud to contribute to the diversification of Macao’s tourism industry.”
