(Macao, May 7, 2013) - Members of the Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped were treated to a fun and laughter-filled afternoon of festive spirit at the Italian-themed Venetian Carnevale Saturday, at the outdoor lagoon area of The Venetian® Macao. Invited and accompanied by the Sands China Care Ambassadors, the 30 guests were given an opportunity to experience the most authentic Italian carnival culture in town, featuring exciting festivities at the popular integrated resort.
Thirty of the Association's parents and children arrived at The Venetian lagoon Saturday afternoon, greeted by 27 Sands China Care Ambassadors. Together they took part in fun-filled mask painting activities, watched a traditional Italian glass-blowing demonstration and took a magical ride on the beautiful carousel.
For the duration of Venetian Carnevale, which concludes May 26, all proceeds generated from face and mask painting activities (costing MOP 20 and MOP 10 respectively) will be donated to the Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped. Two donation boxes have also been placed at activity booths, giving visitors a chance to contribute to the Association. Since 2005, Sands China Ltd. has donated over MOP 900,000 to the Association to support its operating expenses.
The Sands China Care Ambassadors often interact with the Association, having accompanied its parents and children to visit the children's playground QUBE and to the frozen wonderland of Ice World at The Venetian Macao, amongst other activities. Sands China also purchased handmade flowers from the Association to distribute to guests at its dining outlets last Mother's Day (and will do so again this year) and this past February's Valentine's Day.
The Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped is a non-profit organisation established in 1991, with the primary goals of providing mutual support and encouragement to its members, as well as providing day care services and occupational training to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Macao.
The Sands China Care Ambassador Programme aims to give Sands China team members an opportunity to serve the local community by helping to make Macao a better place to live, while contributing to its development. With a current membership of around 370 volunteers coming together from across all Sands China properties - The Venetian Macao, Sands® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and Sands® Cotai Central - the Sands China Care Ambassadors have contributed over 2,700 voluntary hours of community service since the programme was founded in August 2009.
Venetian Carnevale - The Venetian Macao's third annual carnival event - is ongoing until May 26 at the integrated resort's lagoon area, and includes Carnevale Extravaganza, which runs until May 5, and the Macau Wine and Dine Festival 2013 from May 23 to 26. Highlights of the month-long celebration include the spectacular 3D light and sound show The Magical Masks of Venezia, street performances and outdoor gondola rides, among many other festive activities.
