(Macao,
February 26, 2013) – Sands
China Ltd.’s team members actively lent a helping hand to the less advantaged
groups in Macao by donating piles of food items to Caritas Macau on February 20
and 21, at the back-of-house areas of The Venetian®
Macao-Resort-Hotel, Sands® Cotai Central and Sands®
Macao, while supporting one of the company’s green initiatives to reduce food
waste. Over 500 unopened and non-perishable food items of nearly 160 types such
as Chinese New Year traditional food, rice, cooking
oil, cookies and biscuits, canned food, sweets and beverages were collected in
the two days, and have all been delivered to Caritas Macau’s three local food
banks for the collection of low-income families and other people in need.
On February 20 and 21, crowds of
team members were seen carrying a variety of food items brought from their
homes and queuing up in front of the donation booths in the staff areas at the
three Sands China properties. In addition, the housekeeping teams from Conrad Macao, Cotai Central and
Holiday Inn Macao Cotai Central raised a total of MOP 14,000 which was used to
purchase rice, noodles and biscuits for the event. As a responsible corporate
citizen and one of the largest employers in Macao, Sands China hoped that its
over 24,000 employees could contribute their part to the local community and
share their food at home with those who have difficulty in purchasing enough
food to sustain themselves and their families. The event at the same time
echoed one of Sands China’s green actions to reduce unnecessary waste of any
kind.
“Sands China
is pleased to support this meaningful initiative and to help the
underprivileged in Macao,”
said Melina Leong, Vice President of Public Relations and Community Affairs,
Venetian Macau Limited. “Our team members were very involved in this activity
which encourages a wonderful spirit of sharing and the importance of caring for
others, thus fostering the construction of a harmonious society in Macao.”
“We’re very grateful to Sands China
and its enthusiastic staff for supporting this food donation activity and
helping the others in need,” said Paul Pun, Secretary-General of Caritas Macau.
“The foodstuffs collected this time will greatly benefit the service users of
our food banks. The generosity of Sands China’s employees will go a long way to
helping and improving the lives of many.”
Caritas
Macau is a non-governmental charity organisation that renders a wide spectrum
of social services to individuals, families and the community as a whole. Funded

rice, noodles and cereals, as well as non-staple foods like canned food,
biscuits, eggs and fruits.
