Macao, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (24th
February 2007 )– Sands Macao is strongly committed to responsible gaming. This commitment
includes the exclusion of under-age persons from entering and gambling in its
casino. Sands Macao has in place policies,
measures and controls aimed at ensuring strict compliance with Macao law requirements. Sands
Macao also
provides signage at every entrance to remind our visitors of the restriction
prohibiting under-age persons in all its gaming areas. Sands Macao accepts that a person who was underage
gained access to the casino in the company of a parent, on the second day of
Chinese New Year when more than 50,000 patrons entered its premises.
Sands Macao promptly advised the DICJ inspector on
site as soon as it became aware that a prize had been won by a person who was
under-age. At that time, Sands Macao sought guidance from DICJ as to the proper
legal position as to entitlement to the prize in this exceptional circumstance.
Sands Macao was always prepared to pay the amount of the prize in accordance
with Macao law, and would have paid it to a legally entitled person, or if no
person was entitled, to charity, or in any way as directed by the regulator.
Sands Macao
assisted DICJ in every way, and after detailed consideration by the regulator of
the facts and the Macao
laws, received a direction as to the manner in which the prize should be dealt
with. Sands Macao
has fully complied with that direction.
Sands Macao
reaffirms its serious ongoing commitment in complying with all Macao laws including the
exclusion of under-age persons entering in its casino.
