Macao, Special Administrative
Region of the People’s Republic of China
(11th May 2007) – Sands’ chefs dished up
a culinary surprise for some very important VIP guests in Macau
this week – their own mothers!
In
celebration of Mother’s Day this weekend, 12 top chefs from the Sands Macao were
challenged by their bosses at the Venetian Macau Ltd to create a special mums’ dinner
menu. Each of the chefs’ mothers were invited along to the Sands Macao
Restaurante Perola to sample their offspring’s delicious ‘mum-inspired’ dishes
at a special dinner.
The
12 chefs are all members of the Sands Macao Food and Beverage team, and have
been specially selected to represent the Sands Macao at HOFEX 2007, the 12th
Asian International Exhibition of Food & Drink, Hotel, Restaurant &
Foodservice Equipment, Supplies & Services. They will be pitting their
cooking skills in a culinary contest against fellow chefs from across the
region at the HOFEX event, which runs from 8-16 May at the Hong Kong Convention
and Exhibition Centre.
“The
Sands Macao prides itself on being the employer of choice in Macao,” explained Mr. Mark Brown, President
of Sands Macao and The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel. “We thought it would be fun
to challenge our chefs to get them sharp for the HOFEX competition and at the
same time remember and recognize the support that our employees’ and their
families bring to our ongoing success.
“Many
of our chefs have been inspired to take-up a culinary career in the Food and
Beverage industry because of watching and enjoying their mother’s cooking as
children. What better way to recognize this inspiration than to showcase their son’s
achievements and abilities by treating their most cherished food-critic, their
mother?” he said.
Ng
Tat Meng, Senior Cook at the Sands’ Moonlight Food Market said: “It is a great
honour to represent the Sands Macao in prestigious culinary contests such as
the competition at HOFEX which provides me with the opportunity to expand my
skills and challenge my culinary creativity. Although I do have to admit to
being more nervous on this occasion of cooking for my mother!”
Mrs
Wong, the mother of Wong Sio Lon, Junior Cook of Moon Light Food Market, said:
“I am thrilled to be invited to celebrate Mothers’ Day at the Sands and am very
proud to have my son cooking a dish exclusively for me. This is a special gift and I wish him and all
his friends taking part in next week’s competition the very best of luck”.
